# Daedalus

> Shop-management software for independent auto repair shops and mobile
> mechanics. Runs a job from intake to payment in one record: customers,
> vehicles, repair orders, estimates, invoices, payments, scheduling, parts,
> and a customer portal under the shop's own name.

Daedalus is built for one-bay operators and mobile mechanics first, rather
than enterprise software scaled down. A job is written up once — from a VIN
scan or a typed note — and the estimate, approval, invoice and payment all
hang off that same record, so nothing is re-typed between steps.

## Who it is for

- Independent auto repair shops, typically 1-5 bays
- Mobile mechanics and service-truck operators
- Shops that currently run on paper folders, a whiteboard, and a phone

## What it does

- **Repair orders** — one record from intake to close, with complaint/cause/
  correction, a state machine that refuses illegal transitions, and deferred
  numbering so discarded drafts leave no gaps in the sequence.
- **Estimates and approvals** — priced line items sent to the customer for
  approval before work starts; partial line-level approval supported.
- **Invoicing and payments** — invoices with their own numbering, payments,
  refunds, and an accounting export.
- **Customer portal** — the shop's own branding. Customers see where their
  vehicle is and what it will cost, so status calls stop being interruptions.
- **Scheduling and dispatch** — appointments, bays, technician assignment,
  and a mobile mode with a route map for on-site work.
- **Parts** — catalog lookup and vendor purchase orders.
- **AI assistance** — every suggestion arrives as a change a person reviews
  and approves before it touches the repair order. Nothing edits itself.

## How the AI works

Three separate surfaces, each deliberately scoped:

- A shop-wide assistant that answers questions about the shop's own data and
  can act through explicit, confirmed tool calls.
- A repair-order copilot that drafts the write-up and estimate lines for one
  job, staged as a reviewable change-set.
- A customer-facing portal assistant that has **no tools at all** — everything
  it can see is assembled in advance from that one customer's records, so it
  cannot reach another customer, internal notes, or cost and margin data.

## Data ownership

Full export at any time. The shop's data is the shop's.
